Bus Tour and Tango

After about 15 consecutive hours on planes (1/2 hours to LA, 5 hours to Washington DC, 11 hours to Buenos Aires) we finally arrived at the capital of Tango at about 10 AM, local time. We took a bus/cab to the youth hostel (only $20-night!) and I took a brief nap while Dad went out to buy some food and water.

When we were both rested up, we signed up for a bus tour of Buenos Aires from about 2-6, seeing all the famous centers, including ¨La Boca,¨the famous blue and white soccer stadium, ¨Casa Rosada¨, their pink version of our white house, and ¨9 de Julio¨street, the widest street in the world with 11 lanes going each way.

Came back to the hostel, and left right out for a great dinner (shared pizza, salad, chicken, flan) for just $6 a person! The exchange rate is about 3 pesos per 1 dollar. We also walked around a shopping area with lots of local artists and tango in the street.

Speaking of tango...we just finished a free tango lesson that the hostel provided. The male teacher was ... a very good dancer, among other things. Dad and I were pretty good! We have pictures that we will upload when we have more to show.

Time here is 4 hours ahead of home.

Lots of love!

Hey Amber and Kevin,

I was delighted to receive the new blog entry and to learn that you survived the arduous trip from Santa Barbara to Buenos Aires with multiple vehicles involved. It's apparent that you are already coming to appreciate Buenos Aires, ad did Joyce and I 1.5 years ago. I think its major product is beef-related! Good news that the prices of food and lodging are inexpensive and that you have found time for a tango lesson. Enjoy every day!

Yay Amber and Kevin! I'm so glad you got there safely. We miss you here, Amber. Dance Away won't be the same without you, but we'll try. Learn to tango really well and then amaze everyone when you come back! We went to Yosemite and met up with a woman and her children that we met last year - turns out that she is an alumna of Santa Cruz AND she took sign language from the city college there (I think..). I'll be sure to leave you more comments and I'll encourage other people to do so as well. Lots of Love! - Nari
