kevin blogs for august 6!

Yo what´s up? Our first full day! Amber says it´s my turn to blog. Not much else to do here at the V and S youth hostel at night. Be sure to click on some of my hyperlinks! Have you ever been to Buenos Aires? Why do they call it ´good air´? Boy that´s a misnomer! Streets are full of exhaust belching cars and buses, it´s like rush hour all day in the downtown district where we are. 8 million people live in B.A. and downtown sidewalks are narrow and crowded, buildings dirty, trash everywhere, graffitti, this is why we wont stay long here.

Still, we had some fun today, august 6. We slept in as we were tired and had a dark room at the back of the hostel so got up around 10 to a free yucky breakfast of toast and coffee. We walked to the bus station and bought our bus tickets to Mendoza, an overnight trip on a sleeper bus, then walked 2 miles to the Malba museum of modern art, then the bella arte museo with Rodins, Monets, Manets, Pissarro´s etc. It was a world class museum and Amber paused many times to sketch in her sketch book (she has different colored felt type pens and makes wonderful drawings). Then we visited the cementerio Recoleta, a couple of square city blocks full of mausoleums and narrow walkways, very interesting and spooky, with wild cats roaming around. We saw Eva Peron´s spot. You peek in the little ornate marble rooms and see the caskets. Then we stopped for a coffee, tea and a sandwich at a sidewalk cafe. We decided to skip dinner since we were not that hungry anyway, I cut up some fruit for us instead.

Food is cheap, $7 for a 3 course meal in local restaurants, $1 McDonalds burgers, etc. The museums were free. The bus trip was $60 per ticket, sleeping costs in dorms are $15 per person. I bought a sim card for my phone and a phone card which we are having trouble making work. I forgot the cable to upload photos sorry! I was happy to find my debit card works for withdrawing money at ATM´s. The weather is chilly but not cold, a sweater is enough for walking around, it has been sunny.

Amber says the Argentine boys are pretty good looking here. Most of the boys and men are handsome, dark hair, tan. The v & s youth hostel is pretty fun, with a central dining room with people from all over the world, a tv with the usa vs. australia basketball game on, internet only 75 cents an hour, and a little kitchen to cook or make tea.

Well that´s about it for now, we are outa here manana. We bought a dictionary to help us with our spanish.

Hey thats really cool, it sounds like you are going to have an amazing time. I like this blog, its a good way to communicate and everyone can comment. I should get a blog! Dad, these big cities aren't really your style, I am sure you will like it more when you get into the countryside. That is cool you took a tango lesson!

Hello Kevin and Amber,

Thanks for the Buenos Aires blog entry, Kevin. I'm glad you two had a chance to see some of Buenos Aires (good air not) and saw Evita's resting place (obligatory). I've never been on a sleeper bus--that should be good, if the sheets are clean. Andy has a new job in SB. Enjoy your bus ride. Love from RWY
